Bernard Cribbins, star of Doctor Who and Jackanory, dies aged 93

The 93-year-old Bernard Cribbins has passed away. The actor, comedian, and singer has been a regular presence on our screens since his television debut in the 1956 adaptation of David Copperfield. In recent years, he has gained the most notoriety for his recurring role alongside David Tennant and Catherine Tate in Doctor Who.

Cribbins, who was born in Oldham, appeared in many movies, including Frenzy by Alfred Hitchcock, Carry on Jack and Carry on Columbus. He made his Doctor Who debut in 1964 with Peter Cushing in the movie Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. He later made a comeback in 2007 for the revival of the show as Wilfred Mott, a different character.
