Johnny Depp to direct first movie in 25 years

In 25 years, Johnny Depp has finally landed his first role as a film director.

Depp will take the helm of Modigliani, a film on Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, 25 years after he made his feature directorial debut with The Brave.

The movie will describe the life of the artist in Paris in 1916.

Modigliani, who had previously viewed himself as a critical and commercial failure, experiences a tumultuous and exciting 48 hours that will ultimately serve as a turning point in his life and cement his status as an artistic legend.

As Depp recovers from his recent and traumatic defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, Modigliani represents another European project for him.

Additionally, Depp is portraying King Louis XV in French director Mawenn’s historical romance Jeanne du Barry, which began filming in late July and marks Depp’s return to the big screen after a three-year absence.

Although Depp is best recognized for his on-screen work, he has also produced 10 movies, most notably Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds With Shane MacGowan in 2020.
