Nigeria commences production of Sim Cards as the ‘Federal Government’ bans importation

The importation of subscriber identity module (SIM) cards has been prohibited by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, made the announcement on Monday in Oniru, Lagos.

He talked at the Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Content Expo (NTICE), which was organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Office for Developing Indigenous Telecoms Sector (NODITS) (NCC). Pantami believes that Africa’s largest country should not import goods that can be manufactured locally.
“Let me be clear: the federal government will no longer accept sim card importation.” We are now manufacturing them in Nigeria.
