Sony announces new PlayStation Plus subscriptions, its answer to Xbox Game Pass
Today, Sony is releasing new versions of its PlayStation Plus subscriptions, the company’s long-rumored answer to Xbox Game Pass. Sony’s current subscription services, PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now, have been combined to form PlayStation Plus.
Two new PlayStation Plus subscription options will include multiplayer gaming as well as a catalog of select PlayStation games to download or stream.
These new tiers will be available in Asia beginning in June, followed by North America, Europe, and the rest of the world. PlayStation Now will no longer be available as a standalone service as part of the launch.
PlayStation Plus Essential will cost $9.99 per month and will include the same PlayStation Plus benefits that are currently available, such as online multiplayer access, two monthly downloadable games, and discounts.
PlayStation Plus Extra is a new tier that includes all of the Essential benefits as well as an additional 400 PS4 or PS5 games. This Extra tier’s games are also downloadable, and it will cost $14.99 per month. PlayStation Plus Premium, which costs $17.99 per month, is the third tier.
The Premium option includes all of the benefits of the Essential and Extra options, as well as 340 additional games, including select PS3 titles via cloud streaming. There will be a library of classic games available for streaming and download, including original PlayStation, PS2, and PSP titles. This Premium tier will also include time-limited game trials, allowing PlayStation owners to try games before purchasing them.
