Ogoja unveils ‘fresh face’ as race to replace late Senator Rose Oko

The Movement for the Actualization of Ogoja in the Senate ( MAOS) has unveiled a ‘fresh face’ in the race for senator to represent the Cross River State Northern Senatorial District.

The Cross River State northern senatorial district seat is now vacant, following the death of Dr Rose Okoji Oko in a UK medical facility on March 23, 2020.

The new face is Dr Dino Magam who hails from Ogoja local government area.

The other local governments in the district, namely; Obudu, Yala, Bekwarra and Obanliku have been represented in the senate at different times.

MAOS says it will no longer sit idly and stare in the face of perennial marginalisation.

MAOS adds that its choice is borne of the neglect that Ogoja has suffered for decades. “Ours has been the only LGA in the constituency that hasn’t had their son or daughter in the National Assembly’s Red Chamber since 1979, even though all the other local governments in the constituency were created from Ogoja.

“Ogoja is the most cosmopolitan local government in northern Nigeria and the economic and agricultural hub of the north. Asides Calabar, Ogoja is the melting pot of Cross River. A local government of this calibre definitely deserves a seat at the highest level of Nigeria’s legislative arm of government,” the statement reads.

37-year-old Magam is a Medical Doctor by profession. He holds a Bsc in Human Anatomy and an MBBS degree from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

He commenced his early political life as President of the National Association of Cross River State Students ( NACRISS).

Magam is the current branch secretary of St. Patrick’s College Alumni Association Ikot Ana, Calabar.
