Rapper Lil Tjay in surgery after sustaining multiple injuries New Jersey shooting
Lil Tjay, the multi-platinum rapper, underwent emergency surgery on June 22 after being shot in northeastern New Jersey. The 21-year-old musician was out of surgery as of 1 p.m. EST, and his condition was improving, though “he’s still not out of the woods yet,” according to TMZ.
The shooting of Lil Tjay is part of a grim uptick in violence that has afflicted rappers across the country in recent years, including Drakeo the Ruler, Young Dolph, and Pop Smoke, Tjay’s close friend and collaborator. Tjay released a somber tribute song, “Forever Pop,” following Pop’s murder in 2020, and expressed outrage on social media.
According to NorthJersey.com, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement saying that two people were arrested.
