UK awards 50 Nigerians Chevening scholarships

The British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Ben Llewellyn-Jones, has said 50 Nigerians were among the 1,500 awarded the Chevening scholarships from across the world in various UK universities for the 2021/2022 cohort.

Llewelly-Jones said of those 50 Nigerians, five were persons with disabilities.

He stated this in Lagos during an event on the presentation on Chevening scholarships for persons with disabilities to commemorate the International Day of Sign Languages.

The UK envoy urged persons living with disabilities to apply for the annual Chevening Scholarship, saying the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office would continue to select scholars deserving of the award without any discrimination.

“We encourage you to apply if you meet our eligibility criteria and other requirements. Your gender, age (there is no upper age limit), s33xual orientation, religion, marriage or parenthood status, class or other attributes do not matter to us. What matters is your ability to submit a strong application that demonstrates you are capable of excelling on an intense Master’s course in the UK and that you have a clear vision for your future – and maybe even that of your sector or your country.”
