Cultists Sack Akwa Ibom Church

Gunmen suspected to be cultists have reportedly shot an elder during an attack on a church in Inen Ikot Esse village, Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The incident occurred on Sunday, causing panic as worshippers fled for safety.

An eyewitness, Sunday Ibanga, said the attackers numbering over 10 stormed the church premises at 7am and  went straight to the vestry, where they shot the elder several times.

“My husband is surviving through oxygen in the emergency ward.

We need money to pay for various tests before surgery to remove the bullets in his head,” said the wife of the elder.

Police spokesman Odiko Mcdon said the perpetrators of the crime would soon be arrested to face the wrath of the law.
