Agency sensitizes traders on hygiene
Traders have been urged to maintain good hygiene, especially in the sales of powdered milk.
General Manager of Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) Mrs. Kemi Olugbode spoke at the sensitization of traders on sale of unwholesome powdered milk at Onigbongbo.
Olugbode said the sensitization was continuous in keeping with the agency’s mandate to educate traders on proper hygiene and making consumers to be aware of their rights to seek redress when cheated.
She said: “The sensitization has been yielding results. When we first started, we realized it was only three companies producing powdered milk in big bags … After that, the firms said they had stopped selling in that size and would instead package them in smaller sizes to make it easier for traders. That is a good response.
“The traders have also been compliant because we have continued to monitor the markets we have visited.
They are complying with the undertaking they signed, promising to improve on their personal hygiene, wear aprons, cover their heads, and not expose the products in an unwholesome manner.

But at Ojuwoye market in Mushin, we caught some traders who were lackadaisical about the undertaking and the market executives carried out enforcement and things changed.
“Our monitoring of the market would also continue to ensure that the purpose of the sensitization is not defeated.”
