Boris Johnson vows to remain prime minister despite the resignation of his two top cabinet ministers

Despite the resignations of two top Cabinet ministers and a slew of lower-level officials, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he intends to stay in power.

“The job of a prime minister in difficult circumstances when you’ve been handed a colossal mandate is to keep going,” Johnson told lawmakers on Wednesday.

The resignations of Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid have weakened Johnson’s grip on power.

They resigned on Tuesday, citing Johnson’s handling of ethics scandals, including the case of a senior official accused of sexual misconduct.

Johnson quickly replaced the two men, but a number of junior ministers have also resigned, and Johnson’s support within his Conservative Party is rapidly dwindling.
