Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid al-Adha – What it means for Muslim folks
On the first day of the four-day Eid al-Adha holiday, an estimated 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide gathered to pray.
Following the prayers, many people began slaughtering animals in remembrance of the Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham to Jews and Christians) willingness to sacrifice his own son at God’s command before the command was revoked.
The meat of sacrificed animals is distributed to the poor.
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) residents flocked to mosques for Eid prayers. The Hala Sultan Mosque in Lefkosa, as well as other mosques across the country, quickly filled up before prayers.
