Judge Attacked by Man Who Launched Himself Over Bench During Sentencing
A criminal was filmed brutally attacking a judge in her own court as she was in the middle of sentencing him.
Newly convicted Deobra Delone Redden launched himself over the bench towardsjudge Mary Kay Holthus after she denied him bail in a Las Vegas court yesterday morning.
In the footage of the incident, he can be heard shouting ‘nah, f*** that, bitch’ shortly before the violence erupted.
A pair of flags behind the judge fall over as he gets on top of her, and she can be heard crying out for help as he repeatedly punches her.
Despite the efforts of marshals to pull him away, Redden was able to inflict injuries on Holthus, and her current condition is being monitored.
The attack continues for more than 30 seconds, and once it is finally over, a staff member at the court can be heard saying: ‘She hit her head hard.’
A marshal of the court was also injured and had to be taken to hospital.
Ironically, Redden was being sentenced for aggravated battery with substantial bodily harm shortly before the attack, following a previous guilty plea.
The Las Vegas District Court said in a statement to local news station Channel 13: ‘We commend the heroic acts of her staff, law enforcement, and all others who subdued the defendant.
‘The court remains committed to a safe and secure courthouse and courtrooms.
‘We are reviewing all our protocols and will do whatever is necessary to protect the judiciary, the public, and our employees.’
In a tweet, the Nevada Attorney General’s office said: ‘Sending our sincerest well wishes to District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus and the marshal injured in her courtroom today.
