Videos: No casualties after transformer catches fire at Hoover Dam
A transformer at Hoover Dam briefly caught fire on Tuesday morning, but no one was hurt, according to authorities.
According to Jacklynn L. Gould, regional director for the Lower Colorado Region of the Bureau of Reclamation, “there is no risk to the power grid and power is still being generated.”
She said the fire started around 10 a.m. and was put out about 30 minutes later.
Videos shared on social media appeared to show a fire or explosion in a structure close to the dam’s base.
Overhead, a thick column of black smoke swirled.
The fire was put out before the fire department arrived, according to a tweet from the city of Boulder City. Additional inquiries were directed to the Bureau of Reclamation.
