Photos: Tanglewood Middle School shooting – Here’s what we know

A child was killed in a shooting at Greenville’s Tanglewood Middle School on Thursday.

A school resource officer requested emergency backup at 12:30 p.m. after a student was shot, according to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Hobart Lewis stated that another student was apprehended.

According to Lewis, approximately 100 deputies from the surrounding area responded.

Students were transported from the school to a church in Simpsonville to be reunited with their families.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster tweeted, “I have spoken with Sheriff Lewis and SLED Chief (Mark) Keel about the shooting at Tanglewood Middle School.” “I’m grateful to the officers and agents who acted quickly and admirably in the face of an enormously difficult situation.” A child has died as a result of a shooting at Greenville’s Tanglewood Middle School.

A child was killed in the shooting at Tanglewood Middle School

Marshall Jackson, who identified himself as the child’s grandfather, told The Greenville News his grandson died in the shooting at the middle school.

The 12-year-old was shot at least once in the 700 wing of the school, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
