Urgent WhatsApp warning for users

Two billion WhatsApp users are being warned about a new scam to get money and personal information from them.

Fake WhatsApp accounts are contacting users claiming to be from the popular social media messaging platform’s support team in a bid to encourage people to hand over personal details.

Now popular WhatsApp blog WABetaInfo is urging people to be vigilant and to exercise caution.

When you are chatting with an accredited contact there is a verified badge placed next to the contact name in the conversation screen and their chat info.

But the scam WhatsApp support account doesn’t have this. Instead, it uses the blue tick in a different place – meaning it is a fake account and is trying to secure your personal details.

WhatsApp never asks for details about a users credit card or information such as the 6-digit code or two-step verification PIN. If a WhatsApp account is asking for this it means it is a fake looking to pull off a scam.

You must also beware of messages asking for money. Check people’s identities and try to verify who you are talking to if in any doubt.
